Milton Jones has been described as the king of surreal one-liners by the Times, and the best one-line merchant in British Comedy by Chortle website. He was a Time Out award winner in 2003 and has been a star of national radio and television including the Comedy Store. So it is unsurprising that the pre-show atmosphere at Thursday evenings alpha launch was electric.

With the tickets all sold out, Trinity Church was transformed into a comedy club venue, the bar doing a brisk trade, and pre-show music provide by Pete Hills. But come 8.30 and the floor belonged entirely to Milton Jones. Within moments, he had the entire audience in the palm of his hands – moving them from one moment of hilarity to the next, with the incredibly funny one-liners interspersed with a full range of face bending expressions, all capped off with his trade-mark hair.

In this day and age it is truly refreshing to find someone who is so incredibly funny, but doesn’t need to rely on the degrading of people or the use of material without any moral compass to get their laughs. And in this respect Milton delivers by the bucket-load: I am being totally honest when I say that by the end some people were literally rolling on the floor.
