On Monday, Trinity was host to one of it’s regular Jazz Bar events. The theme for this one was ‘Politics is Rubbish’ and Trinity was very pleased to welcome politicians from across the full spectrum of the political landscape to speak and share in the debate. The full panel was made up of Martin Horwood  – the Lib Dem MP for Cheltenham, Mark Coote – the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate, James Green – the Labour prospective parliamentary candidate, Cllr Robert Garnham – one of Cheltenham Borough Councillors, and Sue Lang – an associate pastor from Trinity Cheltenham. The evening was hosted and the debate chaired by Tim Grew.

But before the debate could get underway, there were drinks to be drunk, conversations to be had, and live music to be listened to. The live music was courtesy of ‘The Relix’ – a rhythm and blues band headed up by vocalist Bob Thomas. All of this proved to set an ideal atmosphere for the political debate to follow. The range of topics debated covered many of the hot political topics of the current time – with MP’s expenses, the environment and the economy all getting a fair airing, with all contributors being expertly managed by the chairman.

Of course the subject of the debate was also put to the panel: is politics rubbish?. Their view was essentially ‘Yes and No’.

Which, some people may say, proves the point.
