KENYA: THE TRINITY-KERICHO PARTNERSHIP

“If you want to go fast, go alone – if you want to go far, go together”

It has for some years been part of Trinity’s dream to form a longterm partnership with the local church in a disadvantaged area of the world. A partnership of genuine mutual benefit, where enduring friendships are built across cultural divides, where God is honoured and believers strengthened; where poverty, sickness and injustice loosen their grip; where the lives of individuals and whole communities are touched and changed by God’s grace at work through His people pulling together.

The Trinity-Kericho Partnership is the beginning of the realization of that dream – the start of many years of joyful, heart-stretching, gut-wrenching, eye-opening, faith-raising, life-enhancing, Kingdom-building mission partnership with our brothers and sisters in a desperately deprived region of Western Kenya.

A number of members of Trinity have been able to visit Kericho in the last couple of years and come back changed by being in a completely different situation and by the friendship of the Kenyan people. In 2011 the Kenyan Bishop brought three of his pastors to Trinity and our New Wine conference so that we do feel a partnership!

About Kericho

Total population: 1.5 million

Some key challenges: disease, especially HIV/AIDS & malaria; severe water shortage; unemployment; low literacy; poor roads; recent political unrest

The church in the Kericho Diocese: around 100 small rural congregations, 13 pastors, led by Bishop Jackson Ole Sapit.

Opportunities

As the partnership grows, we anticipate our involvement will include many construction, educational, business, leadership, evangelistic and medical projects:

  • Laying foundations for, and the building of new administrative offices.
  • Development of a conference centre and the building and decorating of associated guest house facilities in Narok.
  • Building of medical clinics and expansion of medical training and provision.
  • Assisting in schools through teaching, encouraging students, and coaching sports.
  • Leadership training for local pastors and leaders.
  • Provision of IT and office training and skills for many of the projects.
  • Encouraging of local churches with preaching, teaching, worship leading, kidz and youth activities.
  • Helping with existing small business development projects and community mobilization programmes.
