Although staying in the same church compound together, we split into smaller teams each day to go and support and serve alongside our Kenyan friends in different rural settings – in schools, health clinics, local churches, men’s gatherings and on a 4 day evangelistic mission in the back of beyond, going hut-to-hut with the good news of Jesus!

It was all a wonderful privilege; we were so blessed with good health and protection, especially given the nature of the ‘roads’ (!) and the massive downpours of rain at times.

Hearts have been stirred, even broken; spirits lifted by the warmth of welcome we received, the simple strong faith of our brothers and sisters and how that is expressed in loving and strategic action that, by the grace of God, is changing communities for good.

Jesus was a man who changed the world, a man who would re-invent faith and religion as it was known, a man who can change our lives and the lives of others. Of course, behind every great man (there’s not only a woman!) but also a story. And behind the man is the story of Jesus Christ through the eyes of the writer, Luke. Luke’s gospel has a fascinating series of behind the scenes interviews, research and first hand accounts that tell the story of the man who changed the world.

During this year, at different times, we will visit parts of Luke’s gospel and reflect on aspects of and times in the life of Jesus. In fact, during the course of this year, some of the mini-series that we do will be built in and around this gospel, and so it’s probably worth all of us reminding ourselves of this gospel and becoming familiar with it.
