What are re:encounter groups?
re:encounter is our teaching and discipleship that happens on a Sunday, it’s like church for the youth! The groups are organised in school years with years 7, 8, 9 and 10 meeting individually during the 11.15am service, finishing at 1.00pm. Then in the evening years 11, 12 and 13 meet together at 7.00pm and finish at 9.00pm. All the groups meet in Trinity Fusion.
Why do youth need re:encounter groups?
They are an amazing place to learn more about Jesus, the Bible and what it all means to be a Christian and to walk in faith. The leaders make the groups fun, with crazy games, lots of discussion and some reflective times. If the weather is good we sometimes go down to the park and play team games in social times. There’s usually some chocolate thrown in to the mix too!
Is there any difference between the morning and evening re:encounter group?
The morning re:encounter@11 groups (for the younger youth) are shorter in time, smaller numbers (approx 12 people in each group) and the games are definitely messier! The evening re:encounter@7 group (for the older youth) is very chilled out, sociable and larger in numbers (usually about 25 youth). It is a mix of sung worship, teaching, small group time, some games and ministry.
Should I bring my friends to re:encounter groups?
If your friend is a Christian they will probably really enjoy coming along to see what we get up to. If they are not used to church or are not a Christian, they are also very welcome, and may well enjoy it and it’s a great opportunity to explain a little bit about your faith before you come so they understand what re:encounter is all about. Usually you can just say ‘it’s church for young people’ and they get the idea.
Do I have to be a Christian to go to re:encounter groups?
We welcome anyone, just come with an open mind, you don’t have to be a Christian.
How often are they?
Every Sunday during term-time (if it’s cancelled then we will always announce it on the website and put a notice in the church news sheet)
Where do they happen?
Trinity Fusion, next door to Trinity House and behind the Church.
