Job Ref: Good News Project (Family Space Befriender Co-ordinator)
Hours: 20 hours per week
Salary: £10.00/hour (to be reviewed at the end of the probationary period)
Location: West Cheltenham
Closing Date: 5.00 pm on Thursday, 8th February 2018
Interview Date: Monday, 19th February 2018
Family Space is a dynamic, local charity working in West Cheltenham and seeking to be ‘Good News’ in the community by offering a ‘Helping Hand with the Ups and Downs of Family Life’.
Working in partnership with YMCA Cheltenham and our 4 partner churches – St Mark, St Barnabas, Hesters Way Baptist Church and St Aidan & St Silas – we seek to improve the lives of families living in and around Hesters Way through a programme of activities and services.
Family Space wants to launch the ‘Good News’ project and this role will increase befriending through volunteers to see this project begin and grow.
Family Space has relied heavily on volunteers since its beginning in 1995. It has also run a successful but limited Befriending service for many years. We believe that a professional approach to the co-ordination of volunteers and befriending activity generally will release additional support from within the local churches and community, as well as other sources which will raise this service to a new level within the local geographic area of Family Space, an area of social deprivation. In addition, there is a related need to work closely with the Family Space Manager in areas of communication and administration.
You will be joining a passionate and experienced team who work closely together, sharing information to ensure that our services to local families are continually reviewed, developed and improved. Family Space staff members need to uphold the Christian ethos and values of Family Space; faith based not faith bias.
The role will involve working 20 hours a week, split approximately 10-12 hours specifically on direct project activity and the balance on communications and administration. Hours to be spread over a minimum of 4 days. Hours may vary during school holidays, in line with the needs of Family Space and the families it supports.
